I'm not coping, can occupational therapy help me?

Therapy may feel like a big step towards improving our mental health, so congratulations on wanting to take the first step!

The goal of therapy is to alleviate emotional distress through insight into ourselves and others. This insight comes through talking about things we may not feel comfortable talking about. The vulnerability we feel in therapy can be very real and is often off-putting, but in the long term can be hugely beneficial to living a fulfilling life.

Why Occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy promotes mental health and well-being through occupation. Occupations refer to the everyday activities that people do as individuals, in families and with communities to occupy time and bring meaning and purpose to life. Occupations include things you need to, want to and are expected to do. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable you to participate in the activities of everyday life.

Occupational therapy will help:

If the daily challenges of life feel overwhelming and you feel you are juggling too many balls in the air.

If you’ve just experienced a major life change and need help adjusting to a ‘new normal’.

If you’ve tried to improve your life on your own but are feeling stuck, as if nothing you’re trying is really helping.

If perhaps you’ve just completed inpatient or primary treatment for addiction or any other mental health condition and are wondering “what’s next?”

Hi, I’m Alex

I’m a Cape Town-based occupational therapist, passionate about helping people live fulfilling lives by working towards more meaningful relationships with yourself and others. Whether you’re looking to improve the mental health and wellbeing of yourself or your family, I have the experience and dedication needed to help you along this journey.

What I offer

Individual therapy is one-on-one sessions to start the process of becoming aware of how unconscious patterns of thinking, feeling and behavior affects your present life.

Group therapy provides a space to practice skills in a setting with other people, where you can experience interpersonal growth and understand life inside the group, while experiencing the dynamic of group interactions.

Family therapy can help family members improve communication and resolve conflicts, teaching skills to deepen family connections and explore solutions and strategies to carry the family through stressful times.
