Individual therapy sessions are focused on working together to improve your ability to function in your day-to-day life, despite the psychological difficulties and challenges faced.
I make use of DBT and CBT modalities with a functional approach, so that individuals can start the process of becoming aware of how unconscious patterns of thinking, feeling and behavior affects their present lives.
Individual therapy is client-centered, based on the belief that each person is an expert on their own lives.
In the first session I will ask you a lot of questions and gather some information on your current struggles. You and I will work together to identify your main aims for our time together. We will also discuss how often we will meet and you can decide whether you want to commit to this journey together. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you’d like on how I work and what our time together will look like.
Follow up appointments will consist of 50-55 minute sessions where we can start exploring and reflecting on the areas you would like to change.
The sessions also allow for the practicing if skills, working together to reach the goals set for therapy.
Group therapy can provide a space to practice skills in a setting with other people where one can experience interpersonal growth, understand life inside the group while experiencing the dynamic of group interactions. Groups provide the opportunity to share your experiences and relate to others who understand your situation.
Group therapy sessions and support groups are available to individuals grappling with personal, professional and interpersonal obstacles where you can explore your concerns with others while engaging with a supportive network to help you conquer your barriers.
The initial appointment will be a one-on-one session for me to ask you questions, aiming to help me to understand your needs and which group would be of most benefit to you.
After the initial assessment, all follow up sessions will be group sessions.
Groups that I offer include the following:
Due to the nature of my work limiting my ability to answer phone calls in real time, please send me an email or WhatsApp to book an appointment. I will respond to your message within 24 hours to schedule an initial consultation.
Once we have agreed on an appointment time, I will send you two forms to complete before we meet, which includes a Client Agreement form, giving more information on the the therapy process, and a Client Information form, outlining your details for ease of communication. After the initial consultation, we will decide on goals for treatment, the frequency of appointments and which services will be of most benefit.
On occasions, the assessment process leads to the conclusion that you may better be helped by seeing a therapist with a different specialty. In such instances, you will be offered the opportunity to be referred to another practitioner.
I am available to schedule appointments during the week (10h00-16h00) and on Saturday mornings (09h00-12h00).
It is always better for the initial consultation to be face-to-face, however, follow-up sessions can occur virtually via Zoom or Google Meets. If you prefer face-to-face sessions, you should consider proximity to the practice – it is logistically helpful to attend therapy near where you live or work.
If you need to cancel or postpone the appointment, please provide no less than 24-hours’ notice. Clients who do not fulfil the notice period will be charged for unattended sessions.
Cost and payment options are discussed in the initial consultation. The practice does not claim directly from medical aids and accounts need to be settled timeously. If you are planning to claim through medical aid, it may be a good idea to contact them to check for benefits.
